Phase I — Foundation: — Now
This is where we prove the concept. Not to anyone else, but to ourselves. Phase One is about building the organisation that the rest of the roadmap depends on. Governance is finalized and documented. The first full webinar cycle runs and runs well. The Crew Directory is maintained, not just started. Communication systems work the way they're supposed to.
We succeed in Phase One when Maw'il functions the way we said it would: consistently, without depending on any single person to hold it together.
Milestones:
Governance structure finalized and documented
Director Board and Executive tier fully staffed
First complete webinar cycle delivered
Website and digital infrastructure live
Crew Directory established and actively maintained
Communication and documentation systems operational
Phase II — Institutionalization:
Once we've proven we can operate, Phase Two is about expanding what we can offer. This means formalizing our first academic and conservation partnerships, building an advisory structure of professionals who believe in what we're doing, and deepening our programming so that the Research Exposure Track is fully live and genuinely rigorous.
It's also where we test our leadership continuity systems for the first time. Someone will step down. Someone new will step up. If Phase Two goes well, no one outside will notice.
Milestones:
First institutional partnerships formally established
Scientific advisory structure introduced
Research Exposure Track fully launched and active
Community Engagement campaigns reaching external audiences
Google Workspace for Education integration complete
First leadership transition successfully managed
Phase III — Expansion:
By Phase Three, Maw'il is a proven organisation with real partnerships and a track record. Now we pursue what we've been building toward: field programs that put members in direct contact with the ecosystems they've been studying, supervised research collaborations with partner institutions, and the groundwork for a regional presence that extends well beyond our founding membership.
This is where Maw'il stops being promising and starts being something that lasts.
Milestones:
Field observation programs designed and piloted
Research internship pathway launched
Youth fellowship program introduced
Regional partner and collaborator network established
Subdomain infrastructure for specialized branches live
National recognition pathway actively pursued
